I would appreciate your help in making this the best and safest year ever!
Safety is still top priority so please parents, stress the importance of our safety rules for gym to your children: Listen, Follow Directions, Be Respectful, Be Civilized, Keep It Fun, Walk Away from Anger. I will be issuing detentions and calling parents of students who do not obey the rules. Students who consistently break the rules will spend P.E. time sitting with Sister Mark!
Also.....I have stressed to our students that P.E. class does not offer enough exercise for children/teens your age. Here are some suggestions for getting more movement into your lives...
1. Participate in "The President's Challenge" by going to www.PresidentsChallenge.org and registering under St. George School. You will have an opportunity to earn a presidential gold medal for fitness if you log your fitness activities there, and stick with the program for 6 weeks. Go to the site to learn more or ask Ms. S to help you get involved!
2. Join a sports team, take dance lessons, join cheerleading or gymnastics.
3. Participate in a park district activity that will get you moving!
4. Help around the house with chores! How about vacuuming, raking, mopping, dusting....whatever needs to be done!
5. Be the "coach" in your family by leading your family thru a series of exercises, at least 3 times per week for 15-20 minutes each time.
6. Walk the dog, take a walk with mom or your little sister, run, play, go to the health club with dad, go hiking or biking.....
Nike says JUST DO IT!....and that's what I say too!
Love ya! - Ms. S.

Events
Jr. High Students will have "Health Class" the first Wednesday of each month in the Computer Lab. Topics to be covered include:
1. The basics of: Personal Health & Forming Good Health Habits, Family Health, Consumer Health, Environmental Health (Community and Global Health).
2. Fitness & Movement
3. Nutrition
4. Hygiene and Disease Prevention
5. Basic First Aid and Safety
6. Adolescent Emotions and Managing Stress
7. Managing Negative Peer Pressure
8. Living Peacefully and Getting Along
more.....
Here's a list of just some of our Fun Activities in P.E. Class!......
Basketball, Volleyball, Kickball, Dance, Circus Stunts and Tumbling, Obstacle Courses, Scooter Races, Eclipse (a racquetball game), Softball and Whiffleball, Beachie-Beachie Ball, Juggling, Jr. Olympics (Track and Field events), Team Building Challenges (ie: Human Knot, Tug of War, "P.E. Survivor"), Disabilities Training (where students will actually have to do a series of challenges while disabled - ie: blind-folded, using just one arm or one leg, etc).....
and more!
These are just some of our activities!
Please maintain a positive attitude and open mind in P.E. class, and just try your best! We all have different strengths, talents and interests. Some of you are musicians, singers, mathematicians, readers, writers, scientists, dancers and comedians (we have lots of those!!!). I know everyone is not an athlete, and that's OKAY! You don't have to be an athlete to benefit from P.E. and have a good P.E. experience. Anyway, Phys Ed is more about fitness & health, getting along, being safe, learning, and having fun. Winning and losing are just not that important so.... let's lighten up, and keep it safe and fun so everyone will have a positive experience!
Thanks!..... - Ms. Schmitz
