For All: GROWING STRONG

Growing up is also about growing strong - in mind, body and spirit.  There isn't any difficult situation that can't be helped by following these suggestions:

1.  Be the first to say "hello!"

2.  Say "please" and "thank you" alot.

3.  Maintain a positive attitude and an open mind.

4.  Treat everyone you meet like you want to be treated - with kindness    and  respect!

5.  Be safe!  You are fragile and vulnerable to hurt and harm, so take care of yourself and THINK SAFETY wherever you go.....look both ways, use seat belts, use protective gear when playing sports, remember bike safety, swimming safety, train crossing safety....we must remind our children of these things everyday because most kids still believe that they are indestructible and accidents happen to someone else!

6.  Keep a tight rein on your temper and use time out (walk away) to cool down when angry.

7.  Stop blaming others.  Take responsibility for every area of your life.

8.  Pray not for things, but for wisdom and courage.

9.  Be someone that you yourself can feel proud of.

10.  There is good in everyone....seek out the good in people!

11.  Life is precious, so practice good health habits everyday....eat right, exercise and play daily, keep yourself clean, and stay away from unhealthy influences.  Never hesitate to talk to someone or see a doctor if something seems out-of-whack.

12.  Practice empathy.  Try to see things from other peoples points of view.  You will have a much better understanding of the world if you can do that!

13.  Don't judge yourself or others too harshly.   Allow for imperfections and differences of opinion.  Realize that we're all a bit different from one another and that's okay!

14.  If you make a mistake, do your best to fix it and learn from it, then move on.

15.  Accept pain, disappointment and loss as part of life.

16.  Forget the Jonses!

17.  Judge your own success by the degree that you're enjoying peace, contentment, good health, love and laughter.

18.  Lighten up.  Loosen up.  Don't let life's little aggravations keep you in a state of tension.

19.  Use your wit to amuse, not abuse.

20.  Give more than you take.

21.  Never underestimate the power of a kind word or deed.  The Chinese say: A kind word can warm three winters.

22.  Be a leader, not a follower.......set new trends!

23.  Measure people by the size of their hearts, not their bank accounts or cars.

24.  Believe in God and yourself!  Anything is possible if you believe!

25.  You are what your friends are, so choose your friends wisely.

26.  Don't be afraid to say "I'm sorry" or "I made a mistake".

27.  Don't be afraid to say "I need help."  That's a strength, not a weakness.

28.  Count your blessings....they're all around you!

29.  Consider consequences to self and others BEFORE you act.

30.  Feel the music, smell the flowers, show your family you love them every day.

31.  Cheer up 'negative' people with positive words and a smile.

32.  Learn to disagree without being disagreeable.

33.  Don't overlook life's small joys while hunting for the big ones!

34.  If you understand what integrity is, you probably have it!  Learn to define "integrity" and live by it.

35.  Live so that when your friends (or children) think of fairness, kindness and integrity, THEY THINK OF YOU!
