Pre-K thru K

Hello Parents of our littlest St. George Dragons!.....

I'm sure you have heard from your child about his/her gym class by now!  Our gym is a happy place where the little ones learn about getting healthy and strong, and getting along with each other as they grow and develop knowledge and skills.

I teach some basic safety rules like......listen to the teacher and follow directions, don't crash into walls or each other (watch where you're going!), don't touch each other (unless we're playing a tag game or something like that), be kind, share, take turns.

In Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten, we spend the first few minutes of each class on 'fun run'-which is running laps to music, on the fat blue line (the kids love it!).  Also, we frequently play the Stop Game (with LIVE guitar music - our guitar is named "George" and the kids LOVE HIM - he's got personality!).  The children are also learning different ways to move to music and "freeze" or 'pose'; basic animal walks and basic balances; basic dance-style exercises and tumbling skills; balloon games,  and ball handling skills. They are playing simple games like "Junk Yard" (a tossing game to build arm strength and coordination), Bean Bag Tag, Noodle Tag, Follow the Leader, and "Colors" (a fun parachute game which also builds strength while making the children 'think').  When the weather is nice, of course the children spend part of their P.E. class in our wonderful outdoor playground!  What fun that is!  I see the children's strength and coordination improving like crazy, from all these different activities!  Other things we do: obstacle courses, balance bumps, launching pool noodles (just cut a pool noodle in half and see what your child can do with it!).

New activities are introduced as the year progresses, and all activities are age-appropriate.  All activities are designed to help children learn and enjoy fitness; improve coordination, balance, strength and other physical skills; learn about safety and cooperation; and just have some fun and move around and laugh with their friends.  Some activities are designed to prepare children for 'sports' - which will come later.  Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions: kss91354@hotmail.com.

BTW....Please check out my web links, listed toward the bottom of my homepage on this site.  These are good sites for fun and learning.  Also, here's a cool site where you can make a personalized book for your child and print it out.  Go to: www.tolerance.org.  Click on "For Kids."  Then click on "A New Friend" under "PLAY".  Fill out the form, then print out the book!  It's about friendship and acceptance.  It's cool!

God Bless!......   -Ms. S. (Schmitz)
