We're Off to 2nd Grade!
The year has certainly gone quickly, and, my goodness, how the children have grown as readers! Thank you to all of you for your support this year. It has been a pleasure having your children in my class! I wish each of them great success as they enter 2nd grade!
You can help assure that success in the coming months!
During the long lovely days of summer, please read often with your child and give him or her many chances to read independently. Now that the children have become more proficient readers continue to give extra attention to the fine points of reading well, like recognizing end punctuation and reading with expression. When your child reads a book at home this summer -- and I hope they read LOTS of them -- be listening for how well they pause at the end of sentences, and how their voices go up at the end of a question, or how they read a sentence with excitement that ends in an exclamation point!
Also, please keep practicing those basic addition and subtraction facts, and continue to reinforce what your child learned about time and money by giving your child many opportunities to tell time on the hour and half hour and to use and count change. Any extra practice helps and will reinforce what they've learned helping them retain it for next year.
Enjoy your summer and the great blessing of extra time together! CHECK OUT OUR LINKS FOR SUMMER PRACTICE!
